THE HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF
ST. LOUIS GROUP
As with a lot of small businesses the idea of a business brokerage was
born for a personal need. In 1975, I decided to purchase a business. I found that there was no system in place to lead me from start
to finish. I was looking for
the following:
1. To have someone who cared about me. To lead me to the right business for me.
2. Tell me how much money I need to buy.
3. Find a business that I could acquire and grow. That I could get passionate about.
4. How to be sure I was paying the right price.
5. What documents do I look for to be sure what the owner was telling me is
true and correct.
6. A
long term relationship with the prior owner as my mentor.
7. Help in establishing a business plan that reflected what the business
will look like in five years.
8. How to finance the business.
9. A
check list of things other than financials, I needed to review.
10. An experienced attorney to make sure all the correct documents were in
place, to do an efficient closing.
Knowing there was a tall order; I searched and found that did not exist
in the St. Louis Market.
So like most people, I went back to my job with a dream in my heart. My job was Commercial Real Estate.
In 1976, I found a school that taught
Business Brokerage and became a Certified Business Broker. I started a
Business Brokerage that eventually, became St. Louis Group Business
Brokers.
